16th March 2010 – Lost Shoes

I can understand how people can lose gloves, and hats and maybe even jackets or jumpers, but how do people not notice that they have only one shoe on their feet. Possibly the little one who lost this shoe was in a pushchair so would have an excuse but I keep seeing adult shoes scattered about, I’ll have to try and get some shots.

15th March 2010 – Home !

Well the first trip of the week to Liverpool, my Son-in-Law Paul had his pre-op checks today at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital in Broadgreen. We’ll be taking him back on Thursday ready for his op on Friday, he needs a valve replacing and a repair to his aorta. He’ll be in for at least a week so there will probably be lots of shots from a moving vehicle and maybe some lights to be played with. This one is the views we get on the way down Rhuallt Hill – When we see this it means we are almost home.

14th March 2010 – Mothers’ Day

Woke up to the smell of lamb already roasting downstairs in the oven, Jessica is cooking and she’s an early riser. Then she turned into a taxi driver and went and collected the boys for a Mothers’ day dinner and delicious it was too! The family is growing, Lily-Jane sitting at the table in the high-chair, this time next year there will be another baby sat in there!

Photos are Jess and Rich working hard in the kitchen preparing Lamb with rosemary, garlic, roast potatoes, etc. I also got spoilt with pressies, chocolates and beautiful flowers and a brand new shiny phone because my old one is no more.

Thanks all of you, lovely day, Love you loads!

13th March 2010 – Little Blue Shoes

Saturday lie in – no chance – woke up with a bit of a hangover from the red wine enjoyed last night. What a hectic day – Jess is home for Mother’s day but trying to sort wedding venues today, Six Nations Rugby, qualifying for the 1st Grand Prix of the year, my sister Pat, the newest Grandma is calling on her way from meeting her grand-daughter and then later the Kirby’s are calling for a game of something to celebrate Nick’s birthday.

Anyway amongst all that I spotted Lily-Jane’s little blue shoes sat on the table, she has a baby-walker but she is still so tiny that she needs the shoes on to help her reach the floor! I’ve just noticed the strange creature on the front of her shoe it looks like a fish with legs *?*?

11th March 2010 – Room with a Sea View?

As you can imagine things are a bit hectic here, not only with the new business to get started but my son-in-law who lives with us is having a heart Op next week. Time is going to be short as there will be a few trips to and from Liverpool, Broadgreen over the next fortnight. I’ll get on here as much as I can and try and catch up with some pics, the camera comes with me wherever I go, so they might be shots of the A55 or M56 but we’ll see!

Anyway this is the church in Old Colwyn, it just made me laugh, all beds taken on the top two floors, but a twin room available on the floor below!

9th March 2010 – Bodteg to Bodelwyddan

Just a quick pic today, of a tree that I’ve been intending to photograph for years, on a road I use a lot between Bodtegwel and Bodelwyddan, as usual it was taken while we were moving, but I really liked the colours today. There are a few trees around that I’ve been meaning to catch, most of them are dead ones that I like the shape of, I’ll probably get them at some point throughout the year.

8th March 2010 – Work for the Summer?

I was very brave today and ventured into my mother-in-law’s back garden. It is very overgrown, I knew it would be, it kind of got neglected all last summer, what with degree shows and babies being born. There are brambles everywhere, and I think it could be at least a weeks work just to clear the weeds.

The question is will we have any spare time this year?

4th March 2010 – Abergele Churchyard

I don’t know why but I keep wandering into churchyards, I was in the one down Fairy Glen in Old Colwyn, opposite the football ground, last week or the week before I’m not quite sure (getting forgetful in my old age). Well that one doesn’t have a working church just a couple of walls really, but still I find the cemetery and the gravestones interesting to photograph. These two are from St Michael’s in Abergele just as it was going dark and the floodlights came on.

3rd March 2010 – Anyone recognise these?

I was mooching about on the computer today checking out files and files and files of pictures, it’s amazing how many there are on our computers, some sorting needs doing me thinks.

Anyway I came across this very strange picture and thought maybe it would be fun to make it a competition to see who’s first, if anyone to recognize these legs? In fact I wonder if anyone will admit to owning them? Sorry I’m only kidding, there are not really any prizes. See you tomorrow!!

2nd March 2010 – Pink Lilies

Well I have been trying very hard not to turn this blog into a day by day baby album and as cute as Lily-Jane, my gorgeous grand-daughter is, I’ve been trying not to post too many pictures. Anyway today she is exactly 9 months old and I’ve just been informed that there is another on the way, so to celebrate I thought I’d post a Lily of a different kind, just because I like it!

1st March 2010 – Welsh Dragons

Happy St Davids’ Day

Don’t know if you may have already seen this dragon on the Welsh news today but don’t think it will have been on anywhere else. A business man in Wrexham came up with the idea, a kind of Welsh version of the Angel of the North. I think it will be an impressive sight if it actually gets off the ground so to speak, the proposal is for it to be 200 foot high – higher than Nelson’s Column. My only query is why does it appear to be standing on a pile of Chris Ofili’s elephant dung ?

The man with the idea is Simon Wingett (left) with artist Steve Winterburn, who has constructed this maquette of the sculpture, called Waking the Dragon

28th February 2010 – Last few days of the Gigolo

Well that’s two months blogging done – 59 days gone 306 to go!

This is a picture of our youngest cat Oskar – named after Kokoschka.

He’s a very happy cat at the moment, but then he doesn’t know that on Friday he takes a trip to the vets surgery for a short nap. When he wakes he’ll be a little sore and no doubt a little miserable, but nothing a tin of tuna won’t cure!

27th February 2010 – Crocus Update

I went into the garden today to do a bit of tidying and move the remnants of last nights fireworks. I thought I would update you all on the crocuses that I spotted braving the cold weather on the 18th January. When I planted these about 5 years ago there was a mixture of purple and yellow, why do yellow crocus disappear? Anyone know?

The other thing I noticed is my daffodils, they’re not ready, I always gauge  how bad a winter we’ve had by when my daffodils flower, for the last few years they’ve been ready well in time for the 1st March, St David’s Day. They definitely won’t be this year – we’ll probably be celebrating with Spanish Daffs.

26th February 2010 – More Birthday Celebrations

Small party at home tonight and Owen donated some fireworks left over from bonfire night to celebrate. Ewart even gave up watching the Wales vs France rugby match in order to be the chief fireman and organise the display, and amazingly the rain held off as well.

Not sure it was worth staying up and watching it on the iplayer until 4am but nevermind!!

24th February 2010 – Crumbling Crenellations!

This is a shot taken on the move as usual travelling towards Abergele from Llandulas down what used to be the old A55. The wall on the right is part of Gwrych Castle, a gothic folly built by Lloyd Hesketh early in the 19th century. Queen Victoria stayed in the castle in 1832, but it has had a succession of owners since, in recent years it has not been occupied at all and sadly its condition is slowly deteriorating.

I just liked the way the shadows of the crenellations fall on the hedge on the other side of the road. (There’s a big word for a Wednesday night!)

23rd February 2010 – Pics from the Past

My niece Jen, came to visit the other day on the hunt for family tree info and we ended up searching through bags of old photographs. We found some scary pictures so I thought I’d share some with you, but only of me because I don’t want to upset anyone. Believe me, some of the pictures we found would definitely be able to scare those with a delicate disposition.

The first picture is me on holiday in 1971 just 10 years old, the second is a school photo from 1974, aged 13 years at Convent Grammar, Bury (complete with freckles – I wonder when they vanished) and the third is me as a bridesmaid at my older brother Peters’ wedding in 1977, sweet 16.

21st February 2010 – Eyesore or I saw ?

I know there are a lot of people who really dislike even hate the windfarm on the horizon, but I can’t help finding them intriguing. They seem to belong out there, appearing to float on the sea, silently waving at us. When I stand and watch they always make me feel calm and peaceful, but then just spending some time on the beach does that too. Anyway I’ve decided, I like them.

Sorry, I know this shot is a little blurry, it is because we were travelling down the prom at about 30 mile an hour at the time.

20th February 2010 – I Love North Wales !!

I might not quite have a view like this from home but I only have to travel for a few minutes pretty much in any direction from home to get a glimpse of wonderful countryside. This was the view on a cold Saturday afternoon, just coming down to Black Cat roundabout, the sun was shining today but even when it isn’t, this view always reminds me of what a beautiful part of the world I live in.

19th February 2010 – Old MacDonald had a Farm

This was taken at the farm shop in Bodelwyddan, in between the snow showers. I did try to get a shot of the little piglets who kept peeping out of the barn but they were very shy and I was very cold. The view over the field is towards Rhuddlan and you can just see the castle in the centre on the tree line.

17th February 2010 – Colwyn Bay Pier

A cold walk on the beach at Colwyn Bay and I decided to take some pictures of our threatened pier. I’m not 100% sure but I think at the moment the local council have control of the pier since it was taken into administration, and recently there is a group trying to get together to set up a charitable trust to buy and restore it.  I believe there is to be a structural survey in the near future to establish its’ condition, I hope the decision is to repair and restore rather than demolish and destroy a piece of local history.

If you look closely above the pier, you can see the flock of starlings who roost underneath it every night.

16th February 2010 – Camera Shy?

Lily-Jane is now just over 8 months old and has become so used to the camera being around that she poses beautifully as soon as she sees it. I thought this one just shows the amazement and curiosity with which she views everything in this world of ours.

14th February 2010 – Fairytale Frog

I don’t care if it was Valentines Day there was no kissing when I spotted this frog at the side of my car outside Seren’s.  I decided I already had my Prince Charming and so left him for somebody else to find walking home from the pub in the fog!
